The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II has appointed Nathan Kwabena Anokye Adisi, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Excellence In Broadcasting Network (EIB-Network) as a board member of the Millennium Excellence Foundation.

He will serve on the board with 32 others.

President of the Foundation, Nana Agyemang Prempeh formerly known as Ashim Morton on Sunday 11th June 2023 formally introduced the Board members to the Kumasi Traditional Council during the celebration 4th Akwasidae festival of the year in Manhyia Palace.

The eleven out of the 33 board members who made it to the festival included; Ing. Nana Poku Agyemang, Dr. Ernest Ofori Sarpong, Dr. Kwaku Oteng, Patricia Poku Diaby, Anis Haffar, Joyce Ababio, Einam Horgli, Mike Dankwa, Kobby Asmah, and Linda Ampam.

The Millennium Excellence Foundation (MEF) is a non-profit nongovernmental organization legally registered with a vision to recognise and support achievement in sustainable development.

The concept is that by celebrating and showcasing the achievements of individuals and corporate institutions and their impact on society it will spur them on and inspire others to do the same.

Speaking to GHOne News, the President of the Foundation pledged the Millennium Excellence Foundation will give its utmost support to the planning and celebration of the 25th Anniversary celebration of Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II’s ascension on the Asanteman Golden stool.

The foundation also donated one thousand (1000) exercise books to support Otumfuo Osei Tutu II Foundation’s educational projects.

“We are here to celebrate the 4th Akwasidae of the year with Otumfuo Osei Tutu II with the advisory and the board of governance to pay homage to the Patron of the Millennium Excellence Foundation. As you know the Millennium Excellence Foundation has a tradition and every four to five years we change the board of advisory and governance so today we are here to introduce the incoming board to His Royal Majesty Osei Tutu II and to also inform him that as he prepares for his 25th Anniversary his enstoolment onto the Golden stool we are here to support that celebration.”

Ing. Nana Poku Agyemang, a member of the board of governors of the foundation also disclosed, the Millennium Excellence Foundation as part of activities marking the 25th Anniversary of Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, will organize a series of activities including awarding recognized Ghanaians who have excelled in their various professional career fields.

“You know, since the establishment of the Foundation some 35 years ago our goal is to recognize individuals who are excelling in their chosen fields by contributing to the progression of humanity. So as Otumfuo prepares for his anniversary celebration we will collaborate with Manhyia Palace to honor deserving individuals as we did for President John Mahama, Nana Akufo Addo, former UN secretary General Kofi Annan among others. We will also collaborate with Otumfuo Foundation to also embark on some educational projects to promote education and socioeconomic activities in Asanteman and Ghana at large’’.

Chief executive of the EIB-Network Nathan Kwabena Anokye Adisi also commended Otumfuo and the Asanteman traditional council for upholding the Asante tradition by making Mahyia Palace center for Tourism.

“I’m very excited to witness the beautiful display of Asante Culture in Manhyia Palace and everywhere Otumfuo goes. Otumfuo is not only sustaining the Asante to a large extent the Akan tradition but also promoting tourism in Ghana. I’m not surprised that Manhyia Palace is one of the leading tourism centres in Ghana. For us the members of the Millennium Excellence Foundation we are going to promote tourism as part of our activities to attract investors into the Country.’’

The Akan Annual calendar is divided into nine months which lasts approximately six weeks but varies between 40 and 42 days in a period.

The celebration of this period is called the Adae festival.

The Adae Festival has two celebration days: the Akwasidae Festival which is celebrated on the final Sunday of the period and the Awokudae Festival which falls on Wednesday within the period.
