Scilla Owusu’s Youngtrepreneurs Music Workshop Gets Headline Sponsor

Creative management company Code Management Group Africa has been announced as the headline sponsor for this year’s Youngtrepreneurs Music Workshop at BBnZ Live in Accra, Ghana, from 15 to 18 July.

The development is in line with Code Management’s commitment to empowering the creation of ideas while building a community that supports and develops creatives globally. Launched two years ago as a social youth-impact organisation, Youngtrepreneurs aims to harness professional expertise from industry experts to improve business knowledge, gain job experience and provide sustainable jobs for young creatives in Africa. It hopes to create opportunities for African creatives to be seen, heard and compensated in the long term through various creative, vocational-led workshops.

Some 50 African creatives will be selected for Youngtrepreneurs’ July initiative, led by a cast of industry professionals. Code Management will support participating music producers to create and present 60-second instrumentals to dancehall star Shatta Wale. The creator with the most outstanding beat will collaborate with the ‘Already’ hitmaker on a single and receive distribution, PR and marketing.

Speaking about the partnership, Code Management Group Africa founder Fabian Thorpe said: “We are excited about being the lead sponsors for this event as it is an amazing opportunity to partake in an investment that will benefit the creation of the intellectual property of the creators we work with, offering them an environment aimed to promote their education, development and ultimately monetisation of their talent. Which is Code’s biggest goal.”

“Our mission at Youngtrepreneurs is to create a conducive environment and opportunities for young African entrepreneurs to exist and confidently explore and embrace their vision,” Youngtrepreneurs founder Scilla Owusu said. “We are excited to combine efforts with our title sponsor Code Management Group who shares in our vision to accelerate growth in the African creative industry. We are also happy with the support from our sponsors, Audiomack, for sponsoring the construction of the four-day workshop while being committed to connecting with its African audience by investing resources into the region’s culture and communities.”

The workshop will be available online for producers from across the African continent. It will focus on the business side of music production, publishing rights, royalties, intellectual property protection and more. Other incentives for participants include 30-day pro bono legal consulting and free Songtrust registration.

The registration deadline is 10 July and interested individuals can submit their applications by visiting the Youngtrepreneurs website.
