The government handed over the theatre to the Central Bank of Nigeria and the Bankers committee for restoration and development of the 134 hectares of fallow land within its premises.
Godwin Emefiele, the Central Bank’s governor, said that the reconstruction and refurbishment of the theatre as well as the proposed Lagos Creative and Entertainment Centre will be completed in 15 months, with 35,000 jobs created in the process. The first phase of the project, which would have four hubs for music, fashion, information technology and movies.
